Portable insulin coolers compared: VialCool, 4AllFamily, PeptiCool, Frío, VIVI Cap and DisonCare

Portable insulin coolers come in four kinds. Ice or gel cases start at fridge temperature and warm up as the pack thaws. Evaporative wallets like Frío hold room temperature, 18–26°C. Phase-change caps like VIVI Cap buffer heat on one pen. Electric coolers from 4AllFamily, PeptiCool and VialCool hold a temperature you set, for as long as they have power.

Which kind you need

Battery, plug or ice

An electric cooler is only a fridge while it has power. The 4AllFamily Voyager has no battery of its own: it cools on USB power and falls back on its Biogel pack. Battery models cool on their own, and each maker rates the battery differently, so read the runtime claim and how it was measured. Ice-based cases need a freezer to reset. Frío needs water. If you won't see an outlet or a freezer for days, plan around that first.

Where VialCool is not the pick

Where it fits: you want a set temperature on a display, on battery, for up to five pens or a box of vials, without carrying ice.
